A BILL
To make amounts provided under the Operation Safe Home and New Approach
Anti-Drug programs available for use for providing law enforcement officers
to patrol and provide security for housing assisted by the Department of Housing
and Urban Development.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United
States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the `HUD Housing Security and Flexibility Act'.
SEC. 2. USE OF OPERATION SAFE HOME AND SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD GRANT AMOUNTS.
(a) IN GENERAL- Notwithstanding any other provision of law, any field office
of the Department of Housing and Urban Development that receives or administers
grants amounts under the Operation Safe Home program of the Office of the
Inspector General of the Department of Housing and Urban Development or under
the New Approach Anti-Drug program of such Department may use such amounts
to enter into contracts, having terms of not more than 3 years, with law enforcement
officers or agencies described in subsection (b) to provide security, patrols,
or other protective services for housing that is owned or held by the Secretary
of Housing and Urban Development, or is assisted under a program of the Department
of Housing and Urban Development, and is within the jurisdiction or purview
of such field office.
(b) LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS AND AGENCIES- A law enforcement officer or agency
described in this subsection is a law enforcement officer that is authorized,
under Federal or State law, to make arrests, or a public agency whose officers
have such authority.
