Mr. HASTINGS of Florida introduced the following bill; which was referred to
the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure
A BILL
To authorize the use of a vessel to transport the former naval medium
harbor tug USS HOGA to Port Everglades, Florida, for use as a memorial to
veterans and for providing vocational seamanship training.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United
States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. USE OF VESSEL TO TRANSPORT USS HOGA FOR USE AS MEMORIAL.
(a) IN GENERAL- Notwithstanding section 27 of the Merchant Marine Act,
1920 (46 App. U.S.C. 883) and section 8 of the Act of June 19, 1886 (46 App.
U.S.C. 289), a transporter vessel described in subsection (b) may be used
before the expiration of the 24-month period beginning on the date of the
enactment of this Act, to transport the former naval medium harbor tug USS
HOGA from San Francisco, California, to Port Everglades, Florida, pursuant to
a contract between the owner of the transport vessel and the USS Hoga
Association (a not-for-profit corporation established under the laws of the
State of Florida), for use--
(1) as a memorial to veterans of World War II and other wars and
conflicts; and
(2) for providing seamanship training to vocational high school
students.
(b) VESSEL DESCRIBED- A transporter vessel referred to in subsection (a)
is either of the following:
(1) SUPER SERVANT 3 (American Bureau of Shipping identification number
8202517).
(2) SUPER SERVANT 4 (Lloyds Registry number 8025343).
